Wolk and The Wolk Law Firm lauded again for contribution to aviation safety

PHILADELPHIA - (10/15/2010) In a scientific paper presented by professors and their doctoral students at The University of Texas to the International Forum on Aeroelasticity and Structural Dynamics, Arthur Alan Wolk and The Wolk Law Firm were acknowledged for funding critical wind tunnel studies to improve flight of general aviation aircraft in icing conditions.
The study found that impact icing on the leading edge of the horizontal stabilizer of certain aircraft airfoil shapes was responsible for stability upsets and aircraft accidents. Indentifying the aerodynamic causes of such accidents is the first step in identifying corrective action. (view wind tunnel test)
In this instance the use of TKS, glycol that weeps from microscopic holes in leading edge mesh, was determined to be a leap ahead in preventing or reducing the frequency of this type of icing accident.
The manufacturer of the aircraft tested and the subject of the study has introduced TKS as an anti-icing alternative to its former use of outdated de-icing boots that do not work. Hopefully knowledge of this study encouraged the introduction of TKS.
This is not the first time Arthur Wolk and The Wolk Law Firm have been recognized for their contributions to aviation safety. Their work in aircraft engine carburetion, B-737 uncommanded rudder accidents, water retention in aircraft fuel tanks, contamination of jet engine fuel controls, aircraft engine failures, spatial disorientation, stability and control, flutter, crashworthiness and other studies have garnered them the largest verdicts and settlements in aviation history but more importantly have focused public and Governmental attention on flaws in aircraft that need correction.
